Time Traveling

Download 1979-2006: A Hip Hop Odyssey mixed by Jaguar Skills
So this mix is almost 1 year old…but the Old School parties & recent VH1 Tribute put me in the mood to share. DJ Jaguar Skills (London, UK) mixes over 800 classic Hip Hop tracks from 1979-2006 in under 50 minutes! Though it makes you want to hear more of each song, it’s a great mix to reminisce to and a good look for the train or car…click here for full track listing
Keys to the City

No One can compete with Alicia Keys on this Complex Mag cover. Though I prefer the original version of the single, the remix featuring Cassidy is a nice play off Rakim’s classic “Erik B is President” which samples one of Hip Hop’s most popular drum breaks.
"More Kicks Than A Baby In A Mother's Stomach"

Nas not only penned this classic line, but will most likely be performing it at this year's Sneaker Pimps Party.
Attention Sneaker Heads!
It goes down Friday Night Oct 12th
Live performances from NAS & EPMD
With installations from: Haze, Stash, Meth, tokidoki, ari, Lady Pink, Irak, MOB.
@ Roseland Ballroom, 239 West 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019
Roc Boys

After just hearing "Dead Presidents 3", I'm hoping it will be part of Jay-Z's upcoming release. If so, this album may be a force to be reckoned with after all. Lately everyone claims to be rock stars and party like them...but I think it's clear who the real Roc Boys are
Clan In The Front

Check out "The Heart Gently Weeps", the first single from Wu-Tang Clan's upcoming album The 8 Diagrams...the group's first album in over 6 years. It contains an interpolation of the Beatles recording "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", which is a feat in itself due to the historic inability of sample clearances from the Beatles. In addition to the Clan's MCs, it features George Harrison's son Dhani, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante and Erykah Badu.
V.S.O.P

The N.Y.quil bi-weekly party returns Thursday night, October 4th at The Vault...we're switching it up this week, and doing the V.S. edition:
80s V.S. 90s
Prince V.S. MJ
Dilla V.S. Primo
Madonna V.S. Janet Jackson
Stevie Wonder V.S. Rick James
New Jack Swing V.S. Funk V.S. Hip Hop
Kanye West V.S. Just Blaze V.S. Timbaland
90's Slow Jams V.S. New School Slow Songs
and more...get ready to dance
“Monsters of the Midway“

Just got back from a gig in Chicago, home of rap heavyweights Common, Kanye West, No I.D., Twista, Lupe Fiasco, & Rhymefest, to name a few…I have to shout out The Bassment Record stores for doing their part in keeping retail & Hip Hop alive. Not sure if many people remember the song Common & Kanye performed for Super Bowl XLI, but it was an alternate version of “Southside” and, at the time, a preview of the masterpiece to come. Here are a few more Chi-town treats to enjoy; Lupe’s “Dumb It Down” & Twista’s “Give It Up”
Broad Street Bullies

Those Philly cats are back at it again. Check out the Roc-A-Fella Remix of "Can't Tell Me Nothing" featuring Kanye, Beanie Sigel & Freeway. After Sigel's comments on Kanye's orientation, didn't think I'd see them both on a track anytime soon.
But who can forget their class collaboration on Sigel's "The Truth", which sampled Graham Nash's 1970 hit "Chicago"
Spittin' Bars

Literally...even though she's doing time, Foxy Brown manages to spit fire on her latest single "Mister DJ" which features Reggae's legendary highness Barrington Levy...recognize this sample from a previous Barrington collaboration?
Guilty As Charged

Brooklyn knows how to party. Last night I was invited to spin at the Guilty Pleasures Party (all the music you secretly love but don't always admit - crunk, 80's, etc.) alongside OP!, Stimulus, & Dhundee...and believe me when I say these people came to dance! So you know I had to admit to some of my guilty pleasures and play a few of 'em: "I Can't Go For That", "Maniac" and of course "Everything She Wants"...I was the one with the cup in my hand singing "somebody tell meeeeee"
www.myspace.com/GodBlessTheDJ

Shout out to Nicole for guest DJing at last night's NYquil Bi-Weekly Party
...the night was live...80s vs 90s, New Jack Swing vs House, Funk, Hip Hop, the works....BTW, feelin' the "Things You Do" track ft Envy, Nina Sky & Red Cafe.
Guer...Gorilla Marketing

You gotta love the media hype..."Everyone's waiting to see first week sales!"...In- Store visits, TV & award show appearances, borough & multi-city concerts, radio & video blitz, the works.
Funny how Big Brother Hov is on 50's I Get Money Remix, but not on any of the Graduation features...hmmm?
Either way it's good for retail, so buy records people! Cause I need to keep my job.
Extra Change
Leaders of the New School

Not Busta and them...but the new class of rappers featured on XXL's November cover.
Saigon, Plies, Rich Boy, Gorilla Zoe, Joell Ortiz, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Boosie, Crooked I, Papoose, & Young Dro. Can't say that XXL is 10 for 10 on this one, but I will say that 6 of the 10 get consistent rotation in my iPod. I'm curious to see who makes it to the top. You make the call...
Justus for All

Shout out to DJ Flash & The Justus League for Little Brother preview
Download the Official ’Getback’ sampler mixed by DJ Flash
-ExtraHard
-Breakin My Heart feat. Lil Wayne
-That Ain't Love feat. Jozeemo
-Uncle Mike's Dedication
-Step It Up feat. Dion
-Sirens feat. Carlitta Durand
-Good Clothes
Got Hustle?

Diggin the Keith Murray "Hustle On" video...
but even more, I'm diggin the sample...gotta love roots reggae...look out for a new SAMPLOLOGY chapter soon
Whatchu know about DC Jo?

Though Harlem has been my home for the past 5+ years, it's no secret that I rep Maryland all day. As I was on the train listening to "I Get Money" (the DC remix) feat. Tabi Bonney, Raheem DeVaughn, Bonney & Carter (courtesy of Erik P), I realized that most people outside of the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia area) don't know about the music scene in Chocolate City, aside from their token Go-Go play list that usually consists of EU's "Da Butt" and DJ Kool (often acquired from going to college and befriending an Uh-Re-Ah (Area) resident.)
Here are a few new cats to lookout for in a town near you...DC is on the rise! Click on their names for more info...
On the Hip Hop side:
Tabi Bonney, who put us all "In the Pocket"
Wale, who infuses traditional Hip Hop flows and production with a Go Go flare
Asheru, part of the Unspoken Heard crew and notably known for his ill theme song on the intro of the Boondocks,
Oddisee, whom I discovered via his many collaborations (Jazzy Jeff, Little Brother, etc)
Kev Brown, producer/MC who's drums and bass driven production bring to mind that of the Pete Rock era
On the R&B side:
Raheem Devaughn, whose debut release "The Love Experience" charted my Top 10 albums of that year
J. Holiday, whom you may know for dominating the airwaves with the "Bed" and "Be With You" singles.
Just to name a few...so the next time someone offers you Old Bay Seasoning for your fries or Mambo Sauce for your chicken wings, you may want to pay attention
Turn It Up
Free Download from my SAMPLOLOGY mixtape series...J Dilla Chapter...more to come...enjoy
