Just got back from a gig in Chicago, home of rap heavyweights Common, Kanye West, No I.D., Twista, Lupe Fiasco, & Rhymefest, to name a few…I have to shout out The Bassment Record stores for doing their part in keeping retail & Hip Hop alive. Not sure if many people remember the song Common & Kanye performed for Super Bowl XLI, but it was an alternate version of “Southside” and, at the time, a preview of the masterpiece to come. Here are a few more Chi-town treats to enjoy; Lupe’s “Dumb It Down” & Twista’s “Give It Up”
Broad Street Bullies
Those Philly cats are back at it again. Check out the Roc-A-Fella Remix of "Can't Tell Me Nothing" featuring Kanye, Beanie Sigel & Freeway. After Sigel's comments on Kanye's orientation, didn't think I'd see them both on a track anytime soon.
But who can forget their class collaboration on Sigel's "The Truth", which sampled Graham Nash's 1970 hit "Chicago"
Spittin' Bars
Literally...even though she's doing time, Foxy Brown manages to spit fire on her latest single "Mister DJ" which features Reggae's legendary highness Barrington Levy...recognize this sample from a previous Barrington collaboration?
