Elzhi - The Preface

With years of recording and worldwide touring under his belt as a member of Slum Village, Elzhi finally brings us his debut album The Preface, produced almost entirely by fellow Detroit native Black Milk. Guest appearances by Royce Da 5’9”, T3 (Slum Village), Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, and more of the finest talent from Detroit only add to what will certainly be one of the most noteworthy Hip Hop releases of 2008.
While this release took longer than many of his fans had wished to see the light of day, look for the follow up The Feed to hit shelves in 2009.

Isaac Hayes Chapter

Very unfortunate to have lost two great ones this past weekend...R.I.P. to Bernie Mac & Isaac Hayes...started going through & listening to his catalog and decided to press record...though this is an impromptu chapter for the SAMPLOLOGY Series, if there's anyone that deserves to have one created it would be Mr. Isaac Hayes...his countless contributions to music & film helped lay the groundwork for Hip Hop, R&B, Disco, Funk & more...

The art of sampling is the most tangible form of borrowing from the music of the past to create the sound of today. Whether these samples are used in tribute to the original music or in an attempt to create an entirely new form, sampling is a large part of the urban contemporary creative process. Borrowing elements from the work of others is arguably a necessary step in all creative process. When we discuss the origin of the elements of a piece of work, we can better understand the technological and cultural context in which ideas resurface.
